Canoes, kayaks and other small non-trailered watercraft can still be launched at this time. East Branch Boat Launch at the south end of the lake is also closed at this time. |
| Elk | 3/25/2008 4:29:00 PM The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has implemented a dam safety initiative at East Branch Dam for precautionary measures. The initiative includes lowering the water level of the lake and other risk reduction measures taken to ensure the dam will be operated at a safe level while the Corps investigates some seepage-related concerns. The screening process at East Branch Dam identified unconfirmed issues which merit further analysis and evaluation.
Throughout this process East Branch Lake level elevation may be affected due to dam inspection work. Lake level will be kept at or below winter pool level during dam inspection. This may have an affect on boating and boat launching throughout the entire lake. At winter pool the lake surface area drops from 1,160 acres to roughly 900 acres.
The following is a list of lake pool elevations and the effect on Corps and State Park Facilities:
1670.00 – Normal summer pool of East Branch Lake,
1650.00 – Normal winter pool and suggested elevation for summer of 2008,
1640.00 – Boat launch ramp at Instanter (State Park) is out of water,
1626.22 – Boat launch at East Branch (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers) is out of water, auxiliary boat dock will not be useable,
1552.00 – Minimum pool elevations.

All visitors, especially overnight guests, shall abide by the following: NEVER approach a bear to pet, feed, or photograph it. ALL food and scented items must be stored in locked vehicles. If a bear approaches you, NEVER throw food or other objects; they can act as an attractant rather than a deterrent.
